A Place Called Home

This Thanksgiving, I’m going to do something a bit different.

From now until the end of November, I’m going to share with you some of my favorite landscapes, a little bit about their heritage and the people whose traditional lands they belong to.

Did you know “Da ow ga,” the Washoe word for “lake,” is where the name “Tahoe” is derived from?

I shot this glorious view on a stormy drive back to the Bay Area from Lake Tahoe. Storm clouds always create the most mysteriously dramatic lighting. I often imagine what life was like for the ancestors that called this place home.
