Milwaukee is one of the most hyper-segregated cities in the nation.
In many ways, the local cities, including Kenosha are practically extensions of the metro area.
This whole area of Wisconsin has major racism issues both openly and below the surface institutionally. I should know. I am a demographer and I grew up in between the metro areas. I attended higher education at Carthage College in Kenosha.
The Midwest has a lot friendly faces and communities that will support one another in trying times. But I could tell many stories of negative, racial charged experiences growing up. This news angers me and I am embarrassed on behalf of Wisconsin.
